Action movie star and award winning television actor Robert Patrick, of Terminator 2 fame, caught up with us on the set of his latest film SWAT 2 to share his Cobo memories and reminisced about his high school years in the Detroit area.
The T-1000 also spoke of his attending the Bob Seger “Live Bullet” concert in 1975.

Legendary Saxophonist Alto Reed joined us at for an in depth discussion on the rise of Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet Band to the pinnacle of music success.
Alto shared the story of going from a concession worker at Cobo, to the feeling of standing on the stage performing to a sold out audience.

When legendary rock group YES made plans to release their second double album of live performances, they decided to record many of their sets during the tours supporting the Tormato album from 76 through 78. The result was “YESSHOWS.”
Nearly two thirds of the record’s total length was compiled from their August 17, 1976 concert at the one and only Cobo Arena.
Chris Squire and Alan White took the time to reflect on the historic venue, the many experiences they’ve had with the Detroit audiences and the Motor City itself.
YES pioneering bassist Squire related that the quality of the tracks recorded at Cobo were obvious choices for the critically acclaimed album.

When the Insane Clown Posse decided to take part in this historic film, we at “LET’S GO COBO” were invited to go to the Psychopathic Records office to speak with Violent J and Shaggy 2 Dope about the one and only Cobo Arena.

We were treated to more than the charismatic personalities that are Joseph Bruce and Joseph Utsler.
Before getting into filming we were given a tour of Psychopathic’s self-contained enterprise. From top to bottom ICP proves they have learned their lessons well and have established their own empire built not only on music but on grease paint, Faygo soda and the sport of the imaginative; Professional Wrestling.
Getting down to business J and Shaggy shared their childhood experiences with the greats of the World of Professional Wrestling while attending the many shows they experienced at “Beautiful Air-Conditioned Cobo Arena.”

A music pioneer that influenced nearly every rocker alive, whether they know it or not... The author of the "Detroit sound," Mr. Mitch Ryder sat down for a long conversation with us and set the stage once again for all that come after.
Mitch spoke of his earliest performances at the venue and provided insight to the early days of Cobo and the emerging Detroit music scene.
From his days performing along side Motown greats to taking the Cobo stage with Bruce Springsteen decades later, Mitch still feels a strong connection with the legendary arena and the spirited Detroit audiences.

With over 6000 concert performances in his lifetime, Ted Nugent has been a music powerhouse since he began his professional career more than 40 years ago.
The Motor City Mad Man came to Cobo to talk with us about his earliest music experiences at Cobo and of Motown legends The Funk Brothers and Mitch Ryder as important influences, weather directly or indirectly, on every generation of rockers that followed.
From his first performance at Cobo in the early 60’s through his legendary Whiplash Bash concerts, Ted shared many great moments from his epic career.
Uncle Ted was definitely in fine form.

Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons of KISS

KISS came to Detroit for one last blast at the arena they helped make famous.
Paul and Gene spoke with us about their part in the Cobo legend and made it clear that KISS, Detroit and Cobo will forever be linked.
Gene spoke of how the success of the ALIVE! album was a fate bestowed on them by the Detroit audiences and that there will never be another venue as dear to them as Cobo.

KISS continues their ALIVE 35 tour thru December.

Ace Frehley

Icon of rock, guitarist Ace Frehley came to Cobo to film his featured segment.
Ace spoke of how KISS and Cobo became so synonymous that many fans believed they were from Detroit.
Ace also said that the Cobo shows were always regarded as a special performance and the band members were eager to perform at their highest level when in Detroit.

Ace will begin touring in support of his latest release “Anomaly” later this year.

Alice Cooper

Legendary Canadian singer, song writer and guitarist Randy Bachman gave an insightful interview Friday. Randy spoke of Cobo mid set at his performance and once again reminded everyone in the crowd of the Cobo legacy.
Randy also said that Cobo and Detroit were a big reason for Bachman Turner Overdrive’s break thru to success.

Mayor Dave Bing

Sports legend, businessman and current Mayor of Detroit Dave Bing came to Cobo to film his featured segment in our movie.
As a shooting guard for the Detroit Piston from 1966 to 1975, Mr. Bing played in 7 All Star games and was named MVP All Star in 1976.
The Mayor recounted how much he enjoyed competing on the floor of Cobo and that the intimacy of the arena made it a special place for Basketball.
Mr. Bing was elected to the Basketball Hall of Fame in 1990 and was named one of the NBA’s 50 greatest players in 1996.

Two Detroit sports legends joined us at Cobo today to share some great stories about the arena.
Pitching great Dave Rozema told us of some wild concerts he attended at Cobo, among them the 1975 KISS Alive! show.
Red Wings superstar Darren McCarty talked of the great vibe that always accompanied the events at Cobo and how there was no other place that could compare to seeing a concert here.

Journey Interview!

In 1981 Journey released the multi platinum live album “Captured”.
Recorded in part over a series of nights at Cobo arena, it was one of the biggest selling live albums of the 80’s.
Neal Schon spoke of the nights at Cobo as some of the best of their career and revealed that the lone studio track included on Captured, “Party’s over (Hopelessly in love)”, was written backstage at Cobo.
Ross Valory referred to the passing of Cobo as the “end of an era” that was a high water mark in the golden age of live performances.
Referring back to his time with the Babys, Jonathan Cain said that Detroit was always a special show and was often instrumental in the career break-thru for many bands.

Chad Smith, Michael Anthony and Sammy Hagar.

Detroit native Chad Smith, along with his legendary band mates Michael Anthony and Sammy Hagar, came to COBO for a supercharged interview.
Chad told his story of attending the 1975 KISS Alive! show with his brother and recalled witnessing Fin Costello take the famous cover photo.
Sammy Hagar gave us a tremendous perspective on the legendary arena and his first hand understanding of the Cobo mystique.
Uber-Legend Michael Anthony recounted some amazing stories from his many multi-night headlining stands with Van Halen at Cobo, relating his own personal performance survival tales.
Chickenfoot is currently rounding out their U.S. tour through September.
